Does anyone else remember that Alanis Morissette song “Ironic”?
I can pretty much word for word remember the chorus:
“It’s like rain on your wedding day
It’s a free ride when you’ve already paid
It’s the good advice that you just didn’t take
Who would’ve thought… it figures”
Rain on your wedding day is one of those awful thoughts that can wake a bride up in a panic in the middle of the night. It’s just like the song, explaining all of the ironic things that could go wrong. How frizzy will your hair get? How will your photos turn out? Did anyone see the Bachelor episode where Jason married Molly? Oh my goodness…. it was pouring the entire time!
You can plan and plan and plan for the “perfect day”, but let’s be honest, the weather is one of the few things that regardless of what you do, or say, you just cannot control. No one can control it. Mother Nature is in control and she doesn’t care that your $5,000 gown will be soaked as you walk down the aisle at your outside wedding ceremony.
Obviously this is why the Summer months are so popular for weddings, especially in here in OC. A majority of wedding ceremonies are now held outside, and that just wont work without cooperative weather. But, since some of you do still take a chance on weather, this post is for you!
If you book your wedding during the rain months (or hey, like today has shown, in November) you have a chance that Mr. Rain Cloud will join your big celebration. So ladies, I beg you to plan accordingly! You have to ask your venue questions to protect yourself from a rain out!
Does your venue have back up space in the case of rain? Where is that space? Will that space be able to hold all of your guests? When will you have to decide to move inside if it is raining on the day of the event? Will back up space be listed on your contract? If you want to stay outside, is there a way you can tent the space? Will there be mud? Can you provide umbrellas? THESE ARE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS…ASK AWAY!
Rain or shine, your wedding will be amazing. Just remember that if you sign that wedding contract for your perfect April date, chances are you’ll be checking the weather report online every hour on the hour, hoping Mother Nature will be kind to you. That’s right, weatherchannel.com will be your new facebook in the days that lead up to “I Do”.
But, if you plan accordingly, and maybe even play up to the rain, it can really be unique and fun. An umbrella is such a cute photo prop! It’s one of my favorites! Kissing in the rain is also so romantic. Love it. Click on the photos below. Rain boots, umbrellas, a dark cloudy sky…. it can be so very beautiful.
Enjoy!
